U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Bart Lomont, the marketing officer for the 3-19th Agribusiness Development Team from New Haven, Ind., uses an uprooted sample of winter wheat from the ADT’s research farm to explain the many challenges faced by Khowst province farmers to U.S. Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. With the assistance of the 3-19th ADT, Afghan agricultural extension agents are currently conducting composting training in villages across the Khowst province to improve organic material content and overall soil quality.
