U.S. Air Force Maj. Sean Cross, left, and Lt. Col. Ty Piercefield, both pilots with the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, fly a WC-130J Hercules aircraft during a weather reconnaissance mission Oct. 29, 2012, over the Atlantic Ocean near the U.S. East Coast. The aircraft's crew was tracking the movement of Hurricane Sandy as the storm neared the New York City and New Jersey areas. Sandy formed in the western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
