U.S. Army 1st Lt. James Small (right), a soil scientist, and U.S. Army Sgt. Alex Peyton, an agricultural specialist, gather a soil sample to determine the capability of the soil to sustain crops for future Afghans at the Gardez Demonstration Farm, Sept. 3, 2012.
