U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Schroeder, senior enlisted leader, Regional Command-East, briefs his fellow command sergeants major on the challenges and successes faced by RC-E during the Command Sergeant Major Sustainment and Equipping Conference at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, Feb. 14-18. Among other topics, Schroeder expressed a deep desire to save service members from having to hand carried their Improved Outer Tactical Vest to Kuwait when returning to the States during their mid-tour leave. service members must carry the IOTV, weighting 30 to 35 pounds depending on size, to Kuwait to have the ballistic plates X-rayed to ensure they are still serviceable. More than 55 command sergeants major from Army Materiel Command, U.S. Army Headquarters, U.S. Central Command and combat units around Afghanistan attended the conference to discuss ways to equip service members and improve the equipment available to them.
