U.S. Army Sgt. George R. Rueda of Norwalk, Calif., weapons squad leader with 1st Platoon, Company B, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, Task Force No Slack, aims his weapon using an infrared laser sight during an Aug. 23 insurgent attack on Combat Outpost Badel. The enemy attacked with small arms and mortars against the base in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. Neither International Security Assistance Forces nor Afghan National Security Forces were injured during the assault.

The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
