U.S. Army Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Air Field, Ga., and loadmasters from the 15th Airlift Squadron, guide an MH-60 Black Hawk from a C-17 Globemaster III at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., Aug. 23. A joint trainer between the 437th Operations Group and the 160th SOAR was set up by Tech. Sgt. Luke Kaufman, wing aircrew training non-commissioned officer in charge, to meet both organizations' training needs. The off-station trainer kicked off at Hunter Army Airfield where loadmasters from the 437 OG and the 160th SOAR conducted static helicopter winching of the Black Hawk. Two helicopters were available to practice multiple load plans and tie-downs on a C-17. They landed at Joint Base Charleston airbase were the helicopters were offloaded and then assembled. Five student loadmaster from Joint Base Charleston were able to direct a loading event and members from the 160th SOAR helicopter crews were certified for airlift. They have to practice a loading event as well as the collapse and assembly of a helicopter in a simulated combat environment.
