Barry Miles, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter pilot assigned to USCG Air Station Los Angeles and embarked aboard maritime security cutter USCGC Bertholf (WMSL 750) lands on the ship's deck during night landing evolutions in the Bering Sea Aug. 24, 2012, as part of Operation Arctic Shield 2012. Arctic Shield is a U.S. Coast Guard-directed exercise in conjunction with federal, state and tribal officials designed to test the Spilled Oil Response System as well as strengthen law enforcement and search-and-rescue capabilities in the Arctic regions of Alaska. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
