This classroom is being constructed with the combined efforts of the AFP, U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force, and the Australian Defence Force as part of Exercise Balikatan 2019. Balikatan is an annual military training exercise hosted by the Philippines between the AFP and U.S. military designed to build U.S. and Philippine defense readiness while strengthening multinational relationships. Quandt, a Houston, Texas native, is a combat engineer officer, and Schmidt, a Seattle, Wash. native, is a combat engineer with 1st platoon, Alpha Company, 9th Engineering Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
