Fernandez, a native of Jacksonville, Illinois, is a radio operator with 1st Brigade, 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, III MEF. Marines from 5th ANGLICO and New Zealand Army soldiers, posing as opposing forces during a training event, wielded a variety of weaponry, including the MAG 58.
