Summary
U.S. Marines and Sailors with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 9th Engineer Support Battalion and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 continue construction on the Vertical Take-Off and Landing pad by repurposing the old coral base material from the landing strip and moving it to the new VTOL pad on Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, April 23, 2020. Over the course of the next six months the Marines and Sailors with MWSS-172, 9th ESB and NMCB-5 will work to redesign the old VTOL pads for the purpose of bringing the operational capabilities of the island up to full capacity.
