Summary

U.S. Marines fire a non-explosive illumination round using an 81mm mortar to deter enemy activity in support of Operation Maiwand Six near Gereshk, Afghanistan, Sept. 23, 2017. Various elements of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are working to clear Gereshk and surrounding areas of insurgency. Advisors with Task Force Southwest are providing assistance throughout the operation to help continue the promotion of governmental influence in Helmand province. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
