U.S. Navy Capt. Timothy Spratto, right, the commander of Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 6, visits the New York City Office of Emergency Management Nov. 3, 2012, to discuss the role of Navy ships deployed to the area. The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17), the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) and the amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) were positioned in New York Harbor to support relief operations after Hurricane Sandy struck the region five days earlier. Sandy formed in the Western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
