100508-N-1531D-070 - GULF OF MEXICO - (May 8, 2010) Boatswain's Mate 1st Class Douglas Jones, from Austin, Texas, communicates with the bridge about the progress of setting up a Vessel of Opportunity Skimming System (VOSS) aboard USCGC Harry Claiborne (WLM 561). VOSS is used to help remove oil from the Gulf surface. The U.S. Coast Guard is working in partnership with BP PLC, local residents, and other federal agencies to aid in preventing the spread of oil following the April 20 explosion on mobile offshore drilling unit Deepwater Horizon.
