William K. Lietzau, deputy assistant secretary of defense for rule of law and detainee policy, conducted a four-day assessment of rule of law in Afghanistan from June 8 - 12, 2012. Lietzau toured the Detention Facility in Pol-e-Charki, the Detention Facility in Parwan, and the Justice Center in Parwan to gain a better understanding of the transfer process of detainee operations, as well as the progression of the Afghan legal system. Lietzau is responsible for developing and coordinating global policy guidance regarding rule of law initiatives and the detention of captured enemy forces. In this photo, Afghan National Army Brig.
