The target can simulate aircraft or cruise missiles in a variety of threat profiles. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) had nine Thor boosters in storage at Carlsbad, CA awaiting disposition. The NRL had the USMC move the boosters to Camp Pendleton for shipment to other agencies. Vandenberg AFB will receive two: a Thor IRBM and a Thor SLV-2A. The Air Force, Vandenberg and Thor missile booster are definitive links to the original Space Age and nearly 17,000 launches here. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
