Hurricane/Tropical Storm - Cameron Parish, La. , October 3, 2007 -- South Cameron High School was completely destroyed due to hurricane force winds and flooding associated with Hurricane Rita. FEMA funded the replacement of South Cameron High School as a consolidated project with South Cameron Elementary School.  It has been elevated according to flood plain requirements to protect it from any future flooding, which will ensure that this community will still have a permanent facility.
