Republic of Korea (ROK) Major General Sang Gi Bae, Commanding General, 1ST ROK Marine Core Division, Pohang, Korea, looks at a jar of JP-5 fuel while observing the D-Day Mobile Fuel Distribution System concept demonstration at Gogu beach, Korea, in support of FOAL EAGLE 2000. Foal Eagle is the largest Joint and Combined field training drill conducted annually in South Korea, running from Oct. 25th to Nov. 3rd. About 25,000 US troops will take part in the drill, including active duty, Reserve and National Guard troops from bases in the United States and elsewhere in the Pacific. Frances, a category four hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale, is approximately 500 miles east-southeast of the Florida East Coast, moving at near 14 knots. Maximum sustained winds remain near 140 MPH with winds extending outwards up to 80 miles. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
