A US Marine Corps (USMC) MV-22 Osprey, Marine Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 22 (VMX-22), Argonauts, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River, North Carolina (NC), executes a vertical take off from the flight deck of the US Navy (USN) Amphibious Assault Ship USS WASP (LHD 1) as another Osprey waits to launch. The MV-22 is an advanced technology, vertical/short takeoff and landing (VSTOL) multipurpose tactical aircraft, and is scheduled to replace the aging CH-46E Sea Knight and CH-53D Sea Stallion helicopters currently in service. The WASP is currently conducting deck-landing qualifications on the Atlantic Ocean
