Earthquake ^ Tsunami - Pago Pago, American Samoa, October 5, 2009 --  Captain Michael Bryce, U. S. Public Health Service and Toby Clairmont, Team Commander, Hawaii Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), breath a sigh of relief as a Coast Guard plane carrying an infant is evacuated to Hawaii.  The Hawaii DMAT assisted with the emergency evacuation of the infant.  DMATs are part of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Disaster Medical System which supports hospitals and other medical and public health needs of communities during disasters such as the earthquake and tsunami disaster in American Samoa. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
