Two Belgian military police officers, left and right in the frame go through the possessions of a Somali taxi driver who stands between the two officers. Both Belgian Soldiers carry a 5.56mm FN FCN rifles over their shoulder. They all are standing on a dirt road behind the taxi. They are at a checkpoint prior to the entrance into the compound at Kismayo Port, Somalia. The Belgian contingent has been responsible for security in Kismayo since 4 May 1993. Security checks are routinely performed on all vehicles entering and leaving the compound to ensure weapons are not being transported illegally. There are approximately 10 billion pages of textual records; 12 million maps, charts, and architectural and engineering drawings; 25 million still photographs and graphics; 24 million aerial photographs; 300,000 reels of motion picture film; 400,000 video and sound recordings; and 133 terabytes of electronic data. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
