US Navy (USN) volunteer linehandlers, from Naval Station Activity (NSA) Souda Bay, wait on the pier as the USN Wasp Class Amphibious Assault Ship USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) arrives in Souda Bay Harbor for its first port visit since being surge deployed from its homeport in Norfolk, Virginia (VA), in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) and the global war on terrorism (GWOT). The deployment is in response to a Central Command (CENTCOM) request for additional assets. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
