Art Rigg, brother of museum curator Harold D. "Buck" Rigg, poses by the 1/6th scale model of a Douglas O-6 Observation aircraft he built and donated to the Eighth Air Force Museum, Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB), Louisiana (LA), in memory of their father, Lieutenant Colonel (LCOL) H.M. "Hal" Rigg. This is the type of aircraft that Lieutenant (LT) Eugene Hoy Barksdale, namesake of Barksdale AFB, flew on Aug 11, 1926 over McCook Field, Dayton Ohio (OH) testing the airplane for spin characteristics, and attempted to bailout when he could not recover from a flat spin. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
