At missions end, US Navy (USN) Patrol Squadron 8 (VP-8), Fighting Tigers, Combat Air Crew 2(CAC-2) members walk away from their P-3C Orion, heading for a debrief. The Fighting Tigers are home ported at Naval Air Station (NAS) Brunswick, Maine, and currently deployed to the Mediterranean theater with detachments at Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily and Naval Support Activity Souda Bay. The P-3C is a land-based, long-range, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) patrol aircraft. It has advanced submarine detection sensors and can carry a mixed payload of weapons internally and on wing pylons

A US Navy (USN) P-3C Orion, Patrol Squadron One 6 (VP-16), War Eagles, Jacksonville, Florida, flies by during a check flight. VP-16 is currently on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean theater in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. The P-3C is a multi-mission aircraft providing Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW) capabilities. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
