Former EF-111 "Raven Pilot", CAPT. Clyde Beattie does a preflight inspection of his U. S. Navy EA-6B "Prowler" at Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Wash. As a result of the Navy, Air Force and the Secretary of Defense's decision to consolidate the airborne threat radar jamming mission, the Air Force is drawing down the EF-111 Raven and joining forces with the Navy to stand up five squadrons of EA-6B Prowlers. The subsonic Prowlers, a Vietnam vintage aircraft, with 1970's avionics, 1980's warfighting hardware, 1990's software and carrying Mach 4 speed HARM missiles, will be the United States' sole tactical radar jamming platform. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
