U.S. Navy Steelworker 1ST Class Bobby Wilson (on the bridge), assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1 (NMCB-1), is the first students to cross a near-complete medium girder bridge he helped launch as part of a class exercise on Jan. 29, 2007. This class exercise is being conducted during the Medium Girder Bridge Course at Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, Miss., in order to prepare NMCB-1 Seabees for their upcoming field exercises and any future deployments. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
