World War II veteran and former Army Air Corps Lieutenant (LT) Richard "Hank" Sciaroni stands with Major General (MGEN) Paul D. Monroe, USA, (right), the Adjutant General and Commander of the California National Guard, and United States Representative Anna G. Eshoo, of the 14th Congressional District, California. Rep. Eshoo was instrumental in the effort to award LT Sciaroni the Bronze Star for his actions during WWII. LT Sciaroni was a navigator on a B-24 shot down over Germany, he lead three of his fellow aircrew members to safety after more than two weeks behind enemy lines. AIRMAN Bailey is a member of the 1ST Combat Camera Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina, documenting the Air Force transporting personnel and cargo into the former Yugoslavian region in support of Operation JOINT GUARD (previously Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR). Flying C-130s every day to the Former Yugoslav region (primarily Tuzla) they pick up and deliver cargo and passengers in support of JOINT GUARD. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
