A new Temporary Lodging Facility (TLF) goes up in the Aviano Air Base flightline area as Aviano 2000, a $535 million dollar NATO/USAF construction project, progresses. Families relocating to Aviano currently utilize rental space in the local community to serve as temporary lodging. This project, consisting of four three-story buildings, provides 100 suites for permanent change of station (PCS) personnel and their families. The TLF will provide 52 one-bedroom and 48 two-bedroom apartments. This construction greatly increases the Aviano community "Quality of Life."

Bethpage, N.Y., Nov. 24, 2012 -- Electricians, carpenters and plumbers met before heading out to assist home owners that qualified for FEMA STEP Program. FEMA in conjunction with state, local and tribal partners, is implementing a Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power (STEP) Program to help people get back into their homes quickly and safely. STEP assists State, local and tribal governments in performing work and services essential to saving lives, protecting public health and safety, and protecting property. The program funds certain necessary and essential measures to help restore power, heat and hot water to primary residences that could regain power through necessary and essential repairs. STEP can help residents safely shelter-in-place in their homes pending more permanent repairs. FEMA is working with many partners including federal, state, local and tribal governments, voluntary faith-based and community-based organizations along with the private sector to assist residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
