Oceanside, N.Y., Nov. 18, 2012 -- Electricians, carpenters and plumbers from the local union inspect homes in Oceanside, N.Y., as part of the FEMA STEP program (Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power) for Hurricane Sandy survivors. When safe and practicable, this program may enable families to remain in, or return to, their homes, as a form of shelter while permanent repairs are completed, thereby reducing the number of individuals in congregate shelters or in the Transitional Shelter Assistance Program. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
