Oceanside, N.Y., Nov. 18, 2012 -- Electricians, carpenters and plumbers from the local union inspect homes in Oceanside, N.Y., as part of the FEMA STEP program (Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power) for Hurricane Sandy survivors. When safe and practicable, this program may enable families to remain in, or return to, their homes, as a form of shelter while permanent repairs are completed, thereby reducing the number of individuals in congregate shelters or in the Transitional Shelter Assistance Program. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad.
