Carrying $200,000 worth of supplies, urgently needed, the American Red Cross Mission arrived in Rumania, Sept. 22, 1917. It had left Petrograd on Sept. 18, on the last stage of its journey to Jassy, capital of Rumania. The $200,000 worth of supplies were designed to meet the immediate needs of the people of Rumania. Reports in Petrograd stated that conditions there were terrible, and that pending the arrival of the American Red Cross Mission wounds were being dressed with sawdust for lack of better surgical dressings.
