World War II veteran and former Army Air Corps Lieutenant Richard Hank Sciaroni receives congratulations and applause fom Major General Paul D. Monroe, the Adjutant General and Commander of the California National Guard, and United States Representative Anna G. Esho, of the 14th Congressional District, California after receiving the Bronze Star. Rep. Eshoo was instrumental in the effort to award LT. Sciaroni the Bronze Star for his actions during the war. LT. Sciaronis was a navigator on a B-24 that was shot down over Germany, he lead three of his fellow air crew member to safety after more than two weeks behind enemy lines. LT. The 220th MP is assisting the Glenwood Springs Police Department by providing security access control points around the fire. The Coal Seam Fire started sometime in the mid-1970s as an underground fire burned along a rich vein of coal. Occassionally the fire breaks through to the surface. At this time it had burned 7,300 acres, damaged an estimated 40 structures, and caused the evacuation of 2,000 residents

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
