American Red Cross - Soliciting Funds - Miscellaneous - Silent Sentinels' on 5th Ave. N.Y.C. appeal for Red Cross Aid. Thousands of members of the women's League for National Service stood garbed in white along Fifth Ave. and received contributions from passersby. So rapid were the collections that many of the sentinels finally had to withdraw until boxes could be provided for them to store the funds in. Photo shows the "silent sentinels" on duty outside St. Patrick's Cathedral, 5th Ave
