Army Sees Slight Reduction in Active-duty Suicides

description

Summary

Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Chiarelli (center) talks with reporters at the Pentagon, Jan. 19, about the just released statistics on Army suicides for the year 2010. Chiarelli is joined by the Chief of the Army Reserve Lt. Gen. Jack Stultz (left) and the Acting Director of the Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Raymond Carpenter (right). Chiarelli admitted that despite unprecidented committment of resources, and attention from the highest levels of the Department of Defense, the suicide rate remains at record levels - over twice as high as in the civilian population. The Army is now focusing its efforts on making soldiers more resilient to the unusual pressures associated with military service.
