New Orleans, La., Sep. 21, 2009 -- During Hurricane Katrina, the green and red streetcars were stored in two different barns. The vintage green streetcars rode out the storm in their old Carrollton barn, which did not flood. However, the newer red streetcars sustained almost 60 inches of floodwater in the Canal Street facility where they were stored. FEMA provided $24 million to repair and replace the damaged streetcars.
