U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Jeff Fowler, Deputy Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, is welcomed by French civic and military leaders at a ceremony to honor French Admiral Francois-Joseph Paul at Grasse, France, on Sept. 24, 2006. In his remarks at the ceremony, Rear Adm. Fowler noted the enduring partnership between the U.S. and France and the two countries mutual commitment to defending liberty worldwide. During the American Revolutionary War, the French admiral provided much needed maritime assistance to Generals George Washington and Rochameau at the decisive Battle of Yorktown.
