A SH-60 Seahawk helicopter from the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron, North Island, California, takes-off after landing near Phillips Hills in the New Mexico desert during a familiarization flight for exercise ROVING SANDS '97. The mission will include a search for Scud missile sites in the Alamogordo Bombing Range. The helicopters are participating in the exercise as part of the Red force. ROVING SANDS is a multinational effort and is the largest military exercise on United States soil that allows training in a joint environment to hone command and control procedures and integrate new systems in Theater and Air Missile Defense
