Summary
During a Nov. 20, 2015, visit to Camp Takeyama, Japan, senior leaders from the U.S. Army Reserve Engagement Team-Japan (ARET-J) speak with Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Maj. Gen. Hajime Kowase (left), garrison commander, Camp Takeyama, and JGSDF Lt. Col. Kenichi Hirohata (right), commander, 117th Training Battalion, JGSDF, on how to enhance the partnership between the U.S. Army Reserve and the JGSDF Reserve Component. Less than 24 hours earlier, ARET-J conducted a bilateral training mission in Camp Zama, Japan, that introduced JGSDF Reserve Component candidates seeking enlistment into the branch's esteemed language interpreter corps to the culture and capabilities of their U.S. Army allies. Kowase and Hirohata also expressed interest in expanding these bilateral engagements by assigning JGSDF physicians and nurses to work with their U.S. Army counterparts at Camp Zama's medical facilities.
