Summary
Fort Myer Grand Opening, Jan. 28 [some references say Jan. 18], 1943. A young girl, very probably the daughter of the Women's Army Corps member behind her, has already been admitted to the store. The WAC member gets her ID checked by a member of the store staff - probably a manager, or perhaps the deputy to the commissary officer. The man in uniform may be the commissary officer, but there is no documentation showing that to be the case. Products on the shelves in the background display products and brand names that are still familiar to American grocery shoppers today, 72 years after this photo was made.
