description

Summary

Members of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Band perform “There is Nothing Like a Dame” from the musical “South Pacific” during a concert in their Summer Concert Series at Mololani Community Park, Aug. 21, 2015. The Marines, from left to right, are Sgts. Stephen Novak, an Abilene, Texas native; Darnell Haynes, a Chicago native; Joshua Waldie, a Winchester, Va., native and Michael Gebhart, a Burley, Idaho native. The band hosted three concerts on base at Kaneohe Bay and one at Manana Housing. The band played songs reminiscent of World War II, such as “Songs of Sailor and Sea Suite” by Robert W. Smith. Next week marks the anniversary of Japan’s officially signing the instrument of surrender Sept. 2, 1945, aboard the USS Missouri. Recreational events such as MARFORPAC Band concerts help boost morale aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, furthering the mission, which is to provide better service for the units, individuals and families in order to enhance and sustain combat readiness for all operating forces and tenant organizations aboard the installation. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
