Marine Corps Gen. William Jurney, commanding general of Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region, Marine Corps Recruiting Command, shakes hands with Private Mohammad Nadir at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on May 26, 2017. Nadir graduated recruit training with Lima Company and was greeted by Marine Corps Lt. Col. Jamey Federico (center) who worked with Nadir in Afghanistan as the officer-in-charge of 6 Zone Afghan Border Police Advisor Team while Nadir served as an interpreter for the International Security Assistance Force. Nadir moved to the United States in 2014 with a Special Immigrant Visa after working for three years as an interpreter in the Sangin District of Helmand province, Afghanistan, and will move forward in his training to become an infantryman.
