Dwight Neubeck, 11, receives his weekly dose of shots while undergoing chemotherapy treatment for his leukemia at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas. Dwight's ordeal began when he started feeling sick in May 1996 at Eglin AFB, Florida. His parents, SSgt Pat Neubeck and mom Pat, noticed a dramatic change in their son's health. "He was a very active child who loved to fish, hunt and do all kinds of outdoor activities. Then one day, he began experiencing persistent knee pains and swelling of the joints," Lora said. He became extremely sick, anemic and could barely walk. "We found out that he has lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells," she added. Since moving to Lackland, Dwight has completed 100 of 130 weeks of chemotherapy. He has undergone a thorough physiological exam and has had serial testing. His cancer is in remission. He's doing well in school and playing basketball and football again.
