SAN DIEGO (Mar. 5, 2017) Active Duty service members and retirees are recognized while Navy Band Southwest plays “Anchors Aweigh” during an opening day ceremony at Navy Yacht Club, located at the Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Fiddler’s Cove Marina on Coronado Island. With more than 700 members, Navy Yacht Club San Diego opened in 1964 and supports MWR in offering affordable access to sailing lessons, boat races and club amenities. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
