Old Guard Meets The Future In San Francisco Bay
Summary
SAN FRANCISCO (July 22)-- The Coast Guard Cutter Eagle (right) prepares to pass the cutter Bertholf along the San Francisco waterfront. The Eagle is in San Francisco Bay as part of the 2008 Festival of Sail Activities. The Bertholf, which will be homeported at Coast Guard Island in Alameda, Calif., is the first of the Coast Guard's new National Security Cutters. The new cutters are set to eventually replace the aging fleet of 378-foot cutters as the Coast Guard's long-range patrol asset. (Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer Kevin J. Neff)
