PACIFIC OCEAN – U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Daylan Aplaca, a maintenance data chief with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), double checks the chain locks to an MH-60S Sea Hawk attached to the “Blackjacks” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 21, aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), during a regularly scheduled deployment of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th MEU, August 13, 2018. The Essex ARG/13th MEU team is a capable and lethal Navy-Marine Corps team deployed to the 7th Fleet area of operations to support regional stability, reassure partners and allies and maintain a presence postured to respond to any crisis ranging from humanitarian assistance to contingency operations.
