US COAST GUARD Pensacola Lighthouse
Summary
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Coast Guard recently closed the Pensacola lighthouse for repairs and during a re-opening ceremony here, Thursday, June 12, 2008, presented the Pensacola Lighthouse Association the key to the newly renovated lighthouse.
The lighthouse was the first U.S. built lighthouse on the Florida Gulf Coast and was first lit, Jan. 1, 1859.
It has weathered hurricanes, two lighting strikes and also the Civil War and still stands as part of America's lighthouse history.
