SAN FRANCISCO (Nov. 15, 2004) Two natives of Vallejo, Calif. were honored on Monday, Nov. 15 at Coast Guard Group San Francisco, Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco. Mr. Alejandro Martinez stands beside his wife, as he shakes hands with Rear Adm. Kevin J. Eldridge, Coast Guard Eleventh District commander. Alejandro received a Silver Lifesaving Medal and Mrs. Alamarosa Martinez received a Coast Guard Public Service Commendation award. The couple were honored for their heroic and challengingefforts in the rescue of a 3-year-old boy from cold waters near the Vallejo Ferry Terminal last year. USCG photo by PA3 Clare Maranda

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
