Summary
Soldiers of the 824th Transportation Company (Heavy Watercraft) quickly responded to an explosion of a 28-foot fishing boat that occurred at the civilian side of the North Carolina State Port in Morehead City on April 3. They assisted in first aid and damage control until civilian authorities arrived. Here a spillage response boom is emplaced to prevent further contamination of the water by fuel and other possible hazardous material. The explosion occurred just prior to a ribbon cutting ceremony that was to celebrate the rebuilding of their pier that had been destroyed during Hurricane Irene. Pictured here are Chief Warrant Officer 3 Randy Grady, on the dock, Warrant Officer Candidate Robert Wallace, driving, and Staff Sgt. Bryan Hanlon holding the boom.
