SPARs Attend Stratton Reception
Summary
ALAMEDA, Calif. - Betty Reed (left) shares photos from her time serving in the U.S. Coast Guard Women's Reserve during World War II with U.S. Coast Guard Vice Commandant Sally Brice-O'Hara and retired Coast Guard Vice Admiral Jody Breckenridge during a reception aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton March 29, 2012. Reed served in the reserves, also known as the SPARs, from 1943-46. The Stratton, which was named after Dorothy Stratton, the first director of the SPARs, will be officially commissioned on March 31.
