190212-N-UK333-104 SAN DIEGO (Feb. 12, 2019) The 2018 Submarine Force Pacific Sailors of the Year (SOY) winners and finalists pose with their awards after being recognized at a luncheon on Naval Base Point Loma. The 2018 Sea Sailor of the Year was awarded to Electricians Mate (Nuclear) 1st Class Ryan Helms from the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Key West (SSN 722). The 2018 Shore Sailor of the Year was awarded to Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Matthew Biecker from Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. Both the Sea and Shore Sailor of the Year winners will go on to represent the Pacific Submarine Force in the Commander, Pacific Fleet Sailor of the Year competition. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
