The church of Sainte-Mère-Èglise is illuminated at night during preparation for upcoming festivities for Operation Normandy 2012. This year, U.S. Army paratroopers from various airborne units commemorate the 68th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, Sainte-Mère-Èglise, France, May 30, 2012. Paratroopers from the Allied nations gather in Normandy each year as a remembrance to the over 9,000 service members who gave their lives during the D-Day operations June 6, 1944.
