The ship’s bell from the USS Alabama (BB 60) is on-display
Summary
The ship’s bell from the USS Alabama (BB 60) is on-display in the WWII gallery of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. The Alabama, a South-Dakota Class Battleship, was commissioned in 1942; and was decommissioned in 1947. In 1964, she was moved from Bremerton, Washington to Mobile Bay, Alabama and opened as a museum ship in 1965. The ship’s bell is one of the larger artifacts that will be relocated back to the Naval History and Heritage Command’s curator branch in preparation for the installation of the museum’s new exhibit, which chronicles the US Navy’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
